Senior Style Guide

Choosing what to wear for your high school senior photo session is key in making sure your images tell the story of who you are right now. Picking out the right outfit or outfits will help to ensure you feel confident and create images you are proud of.

  1. Choosing the Right Color

Picking the right colors is very important to make sure your images shine. Neutral and solid colors, think navy, grey, brown, white, or soft pastels, are always timeless. These colors will allow you to shine and bring attention to your face.  Avoid bright or neon colors as these can often be distracting and take the attention off you. Choose a color palette that complements your skin tones.

  • Layering

Layering is a great way to create depth, texture and interest to your images.  Mix textures and fabrics to add dimension to any outfit. Play with length and layering, for example, add a crop jacket to a longer tunic or dress to create balance and a great silhouette.  Mix up pattern and colors, add a plaid shirt under a solid color sweater to add a subtle pop of interest. Accessories are always a great way of layering, pick simple jewelry and scarves to add even more depth to your outfit.

  • Bring Options

Bring two to three options to help tell the store of who you are.  Show your causal side with a simple pair of jeans and top to create a classic casual look.  A more formal option like a dress or collared shirt with a blazer creates a more sophisticated option.  Add a personal option with a hobby or passion of yours.  If you are a musician bring an instrument along, like sports, think jerseys or equipment, love books, bring your favorite read with you!

  • Location or Season

It’s important to keep in mind the location and season of your session.  If your session is in the summer or spring more than likely it will be by a lake or beach, or surrounded by lush blooming flowers and greenery.  Wear breathable and flowy fabrics in soft pastel colors to help complement these locations.  If your session in the Fall and surrounded by rich autumn foliage, then earth tones like burgundy, olives, and mustards will help compliment these colors.  How about a winter scene?  Deep jewel tones and rich fabrics will help to complement the snowy background.  Layer with your favorite coat, cute hat and mittens will not only add depth and contrast but help to keep you warm.

Whatever you choose to wear make sure that it reflects your personality and style. Take some time to put together outfits that will compliment who you are and all the accomplishments that you have made.  And lastly have fun and be creative with it!
