Senior year is unlike any other year and senior portraits deserve to reflect that. Whether you’re the type who wants something dramatic and editorial or something warm and personal, I want your gallery to look like you. I’m Katie Leavine, a senior portrait photographer based in Beekmantown, NY, and I photograph senior portraits throughout Plattsburgh, Clinton County, and the surrounding Adirondack region.
When to Book Your Senior Portraits
The earlier, the better — especially if you have a specific season in mind. Spring and fall book up quickly, and summer evenings go fast. I recommend reaching out in winter or early spring to hold your preferred season. If you’re hoping for fall foliage as a backdrop, book no later than July.
What to Wear for Senior Photos
How many outfits?
Most senior sessions accommodate two to three outfits, which gives your gallery variety without feeling rushed. Think about how you want to be remembered at this age — what looks feel authentically you right now? Bring one option that feels dressed-up and one that feels like your everyday self.
Colors and styles that photograph well
Solid colors in rich, muted tones tend to photograph most beautifully — navy, forest green, burgundy, camel, cream, warm gray. Avoid heavy logos or large graphics. Layers add visual interest without distracting from your face. Most importantly, wear what you love — confidence always translates in photos.
Indoor vs. Outdoor Senior Sessions
I primarily photograph outdoor senior sessions, where natural light is the most flattering and locations can be varied and personal. The Plattsburgh area offers beautiful outdoor settings — lakefronts, open fields, wooded trails, and architectural spots in town. If you have a location in mind that feels meaningful to you — a park you love, a spot with personal history — I’m always open to hearing it.
Favorite Senior Portrait Locations Near Plattsburgh
Some of my favorite spots for senior portraits in the area include Lake Champlain waterfront locations, open meadows throughout Clinton County, the Adirondack foothills south of Plattsburgh, and local landmarks and town settings for a more editorial feel. Fall sessions near the Adirondack foothills are particularly stunning.
What to Expect From Your Senior Session
Senior sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes. I’ll guide you throughout so you never feel awkward or unsure of what to do with your hands. We’ll move through different locations and looks, working with the light and finding moments that feel genuinely like you. My goal is that you walk away surprised by how much fun it was — and then completely in love with your photos.
Most sessions are 60 to 90 minutes. If you’re bringing multiple outfits or want to hit several locations, plan for the longer end. I’ll always make sure we have enough time to do your session justice.
Absolutely — I love when seniors bring something meaningful. A musical instrument, a sports jersey, a book, a meaningful object. Props that reflect who you are and what you love make for a more personal gallery.
Yes — I photograph seniors of all genders and always work to create a session that feels comfortable and reflects each person’s individual style. Senior portraits shouldn’t feel one-size-fits-all.
Your full edited gallery will be delivered within three weeks of your session. You’ll receive a private online gallery with downloadable full-resolution images.
