When to Book Your Senior Photos

March 16, 2026

Senior year is such an exciting milestone, and senior portraits are a beautiful way to capture this once-in-a-lifetime season. One of the most common questions I hear from families is “When should we book senior photos?”

The short answer: earlier than you think.

Planning ahead ensures you get the best season, the best light, and a relaxed experience that truly reflects your senior.

The Ideal Time to Take Senior Photos

Most seniors schedule their sessions the summer before senior year or early fall.

These months not only provide beautiful natural light and comfortable weather, but it also allows plenty of time to get your images back to use for your yearbook and announcements. The weather is a bit more predictable and allows for a better variety of look options.

Fall sessions are also a very popular option. Due to your beautiful location the fall provides a beautiful background for warm tones and beautiful foliage.

Why Booking Early Matters

Booking early ensures you get to book your preferred date. When you book early you are able to pick your ideal season that feels right to you. It will take the stress out of making sure you have your images on time for the year book and allows you to enjoy and share your images.

It also gives us time to plan outfits, locations, and details that make your session feel personal.

What If It’s Already Senior Year?

Don’t worry — it’s never too late.

Many seniors schedule sessions in:

  • Late fall
  • Winter studio sessions
  • Early spring

Your senior year deserves to be documented no matter the season.

A Gentle Invitation

When it comes to your senior photography session it is important to plan ahead. When you book with me I will help you decide when your session will be and guide you to a location that feels most like you. Your session is uniquely yours and we will make sure to choose a time and place that feels right.

Can we choose the location?

Yes! We can shoot at a location that fits your personality—whether that’s nature, downtown, a field, or somewhere meaningful to you.
I’m also happy to recommend locations that photograph beautifully here in Upstate NY.

Can I bring multiple outfits?

Yes, and I highly recommend it.
Most seniors bring 2–4 outfits so we can create a variety of looks—from casual to dressy. I’ll help you choose outfits that photograph beautifully and reflect your personality.

Do you help me choose my outfits?

Absolutely.
After booking, you’ll receive my senior style guide, and I’m always happy to help you decide. You can even send me photos of your options if you’d like my input.
My goal is for you to feel confident and comfortable in everything you wear.

How long is a senior session?

Senior sessions typically last about an hour, giving us time for outfit changes, multiple locations (if applicable), and a relaxed pace.
There’s never a rush.

When will I get my photos?

Your online gallery will be delivered within [insert your turnaround time] after your session.
I take great care in editing each image so they’re polished, timeless, and something you’ll love for years to come.

Can I use my photos for graduation announcements and social media?
