Deciding what to wear for your newborn session can be a daunting task, but with a few simple guidelines you can create a look that is timeless. With these guidelines you can be sure to have beautiful images that you can cherish forever.
1.) Don’t Do Matchy Matchy
Try to avoid overly matching outfits, that will no doubt outdate at some point. Instead choose colors that coordinate with each other. Pick colors or shades of colors that go well together and build your outfits around that. Neutral tones such as, whites, creams, or grays, work beautifully. If you want to add a pop of color earthtones work well, think sage green or rust. If you are unsure go for colors that are soft and muted that will create a serene calming scene for you and your new baby.
2.) Think Comfort
Newborn sessions can last longer than normal photography sessions. You are going to want to wear clothes that are comfortable, that you can move freely in, and handle the baby with ease. Soft fabrics like knit, cotton, or linen are ideal to create that soft look.
3.) Simple is Better
Avoid busy patterns, logos, or heavy textured clothes. Solid colors or subtle textures and patterns work best to keep the focus on your family and new bundle of joy. We want people to focus on the love and connection between your family first, not the pattern of your clothes.
4.) Dressing Baby
I will often have baby in just a diaper cover, or small wraps and blankets (which I will provide). If you have an outfit or two that you would like to use keep in mind your color scheme. It is also especially important that the outfit is comfortable and easy to get on and off. The goal for the session is to disturb baby as little as possible. We want baby as sleepy and comfortable to create lasting images.
